I have been married to my wife Mary (a local artist) for over 40 years and am the very proud father of my two sons Jake and Josh Laabs.
My passion for fishing started in my childhood and became my primary pursuit (other than family) as I entered my 20's. I have been hooked on walleye fishing, but do fish for other species as well.
I started tournament angling before I ever started guiding. I have won numerous local walleye tournaments and have many top ten finishes over the years. I also fished two full seasons of the Masters Walleye Circuit, and qualified for the World Walleye Championship (with a top ten finish in that event).
I am entering my 37rd season as a guide in the Detroit Lakes MN area and continue to have enthusiasm for what I do. I work hard to make your trip enjoyable and successful. Teaching and sharing information about location, presentation, electronics, and all the variables that go into becoming a better angler are all a part of your fishing experience with me.
